Answer (1 of 3): A chain, driveshaft or belt will present some significant variation in effort. Also the type of brakes and the effective radius of the friction material. So the request for the minimum will cover a relatively wide range of force, though all will be small values. You may find tha. First thing that happens... the plastic chain guard on the rear sprockets that keeps the chain from going into the spokes breaks. It gets lopsided and starts rubbing so I cut it out of there. Now the rear wheel does not spin freely. If I pick the rear wheel off the ground and spin it in the forward direction the pedals sort of tick forward.

03-23-2010, 07:03 AM. The pawls inside the freehub (or freewheel) are gunked up (technical term here...). There is a ratchet mechanism that allows for coasting (when it disengages) and engages, when you apply force to the wheel. Try applying some lube to the inside might free this up. Jan 13, 2015. #1. I just changed the chain and sprockets on my '02 YZ426F and the rear wheel doesn't spin so great with the bike on the stand. Maybe half a turn when I try to spin it by hand. The chain is within spec (while on the tighter side), axle is straight and the pads are dragging a little bit but not a lot. 13 Posts. Discussion Starter · #1 · Dec 8, 2011. hey all, I just got my tire changed and had pulled the rear wheel off. Now that it is back on something isn't right. When i tighten the axle nut to spec, the rear wheel is not spinning freely like it used to. I have checked rear brake, it is not interfering with it. I am not sure what it could be. 1. It might not be the disc brake. It might be that the hub is seized up from rust. You can check if it is the brake or not by loosening the caliper and spinning the wheel. If it spins freely it is the brake not the hub. If it is the hub.

The rotor was actually getting too much pressure on the inside brake pad. Had to install a couple of shims for proper fitment. Try loosening the axle nut and spinning the wheel. Tighten the nut a little at a time, spinning the wheel each time you put some turn on it. Or just look at the pads, bet ya that's where they're binding. Yes. stinkwheel wrote: Brake discs usually do bind slightly which would stop the wheel spinning freely. They shouldn't bind too much though. Agreed - If you spin the wheel hard - you should certainly get a lot more than 1 rev. This extra friction will slow you down, as well as overheat the brake components.

Ideally you should take the cassette out, clean the cup properly, put in as many bearings as they will fit in the circumference, and then take one out. That will be the correct number of bearings.

Well, he's wrong. My 2011 STI had enough tension in the rear with the LSD that when swapping wheels I could jack up the rear from the differential and torque down both sides with or without the e-brake. The rear wouldn't spin freely if the front wheels were on the ground. Jack up front and rear and I could spin all 4 wheels freely. But when i give the wheel a hard spin it makes a half turn an suddenly stops. my rear wheel doesnt feel this resistant, and thats with a chain and sprockets 1993 LT4 Corvette 388 ci Stroker 2004 gsxr-750 SOLD. I even gave the chain more slack, and adjusted the rear brake rod, even disconnected it and still I cnnot get it to spin freely. But then when I loosen the axle bolt up, it spins freely. I just do not understand. Is it a bad drum brake?.

If you jack up both wheels the other will spin reverse direction. If you are in neutral then it would spin freely. Typically a stuck brake will pull to the opposite side when you hit the brakes from it, then when you go you will pull to the side of the stuck brake and smell it for a few miles. Jul 25, 2015. #1. Summary: Rotor/hub/caliper assembly spins fine, but when you put on the wheel and lug it down, it won't spin at all. Replaced rear brakes for a 2004 camry. Just decided to change out pads/rotors. Rotors were stuck on, had to use the little bolt holes to thread in bolts and push out the rotor. Time to change pads, pads came off.

Yes, something isn't turning freely. It's either the front wheel, the back wheel, or the pedals and chain. Lift the bike off the ground and turn the front wheel by hand. If it doesn't turn very freely, it could be the hand-brake is dragging or the hub bearing is. My mountain bike is less than 2 weeks old and the rear wheel isn't spinning freely anymore. It spun freely for my first ride but hasn't since. My bike is a Felt Niner Trail which has mechanical Tektro I/O brakes. It probably doesn't slow me down to much but it is bothersome. I have free brake tuneups for life at the LBS but it is about 35. Ive got a 2015 KTM 125 sx, the rear wheel has had no problems until just a couple days ago when I was prepping to go ride this weekend. I put my bike on the stand and in neutral and spun my back wheel but there was something that was holding it back from spinning freely, the spin would completely stop after about 2 or 3 seconds.

New chain (DID 50ZVZ) and sprockets about 800 miles ago. With the chain off, and the brakes backed out, loosen the rear axle. If this frees the wheel, your problem may be that your inner bearing spacer (between the two bearings) is too short, or one of your bearings is not fully seated in its pocket. If either of these conditions exist, tightening the axle can cause the inner races to be pushed inward, off center from the the outers, causing.

I purchased a drive mod kit for my 07 M50. Actually I purchased it about a year and a half ago, but just got around to installing it. Everything went smoothly, right up to the torque the axle part. Once I torqued the axle to 47 ft-lbs, the wheel doesn't spin freely. It's a serious "pull" to get.

Go spin the rear wheels and those will be as you're describing. Quick Answer: Should Wheel Spin Freely When Jacked Up.

I continued to spin my rear wheel and still it did not spin freely. I replaced with my old stock wheels for a comparison and they continued spinning for well over a minute before I stopped them. I then replaced with the new wheel again and continued to spin it and I have noticed a slight improvement but still nowhere near the old wheel. After the install, I tried to spin the front wheel (with the bike on stand) and there was some drag. The wheel doesn't spin freely as it did before with the old brake pads...basically doesn't complete one full rotation when spun with hand. I checked the brake fluid level and it is between low and high, I removed the pads, cleaned the pistons. Hello all, I need some direction here. I added a set of risers to my 650 last week and have been struggling with making sure the cables have enough play. I finally took off the entire front cowling to give myself more room to work. I unhooked the clutch cable from the handle so I could.

My rear wheel does not seem to spin freely when on centerstand. It takes a good bit of effort. If I give it a roll (with a good bit of effort) it quickly quits spinning.... They just won't "free wheel" like something with unrestricted bearings.
.
 Shooter. Posted April 11, 2016.
